The nicest evenings spent are with the children just sitting around the table creating.x I love it when we all work on a project, I always make sure it is something Conor can take part it and have fun.x

It was my lucky day recently when Emma from Curious Crayons sent on some of their fab Handmade Irish, Non- Toxic Crayons for my little ones to try out. The parcel of lovely crayons arrived one morning just before Hailey went to school and she was beaming when she saw her own name among the Curious Crayon Cases.x

I was really impressed with Emma’s thoughtfulness to send on extra large crayons for little hands that might not have great Fine Motor Skills.

The first thing I noticed about the crayons is how well packaged they are! Each set comes in it’s own individual clear plastic case. What I really liked about this as regards Conor is that many children with Special Needs may have Visual Impairment together with Auditory Delay. When speaking to Conor I need to be as visual as possible together with speaking clearly/slowly as he has Auditory Delay which means when he listens to what I am saying it is as if what I am saying has a few second delay before he “physically hears” what I am saying and this delay obviously affects his Cognitive Ability to understand what I am saying.

The fact that the Crayons are in an easy to see Case means when he listens to me talking about a project we are working on and what colors we will use he can clearly see straight away what I am indicating to; by my pointing and also using clear words together with these fab crayons in their clear case he can understand almost immediately what I am talking about. Visually it is very easy to see which case has which color and he can choose independently which case to choose together with which color he would like.

Emma sent on lots of lovely Crayons, the ones that suited Conor the best are the Large Crayons as he has poor Fine Motor Skills together with low muscle tone. As a result he has a very weak grip and a very poor pincer grasp. In the past he has found it so difficult to use regular shop bought crayons/markers as they are too narrow for him; he physically has not got the ability to hold them. Thanks to Curious Crayons he was able to color away happily with ease.

He uses the Palmer Grasp more often of late, the large Curious Crayons were the perfect size to fit into his hand so that he could color with ease. He really liked the bright colors; I spotted him more than once moving them over to his own side away from Hailey who was happily coloring in one of her fab Family pictures. He wanted to keep them all for himself lol!

The colors from the crayons are really vibrant and they transfer so easily onto paper. Hailey was kept busy coloring a picture of her Family. She was so excited when the Curious Crayons arrived and she saw her very own name made in to crayons!

Hailey loves showing her crayons off at school and has been bringing them with her to Granny’s house to color everyday as she loves them so much.x

Emma has a huge Catalogue of Curious Crayons which you can find on her website here. She can cater to special requests, so get in touch if you have a little lady or little man who need some extra special Crayons. With Christmas just around the corner I know that Curious Crayons will be on my gift list when buying presents for my gorgeous Nieces.x

In the days since the Curious Crayons arrived Conor and Hailey have been busy coloring up a storm. Baby Jack is two years old so he isn’t overly keen just yet on coloring but was more than capable of grabbing some crayons for himself before running off to hide. Alot of children with Special Needs have Pica- which means they chew on/eat non-edible objects, for example crayons, stones etc. I found him trying to have a chew  on a large blue Flower crayon (well Blue is his favorite color after all! lol) but thankfully he hadn’t chewed off much at all. Curious Crayons are non-toxic so they are safe to use for children of all abilities.

We are huge fans of Curious Crayons in our house now. I would recommend them to all parents and in particular to Parents who are looking for something special for their children with special needs as they are so easy to use.

Emma is so lovely to chat to and has a huge heart wanting to provide ways for children of all abilities to have fun. I know Conor had a great time coloring alongside Hailey; it was lovely to see them together as they colored.x

I cannot say enough good things about Curious Crayons and would highly recommend them as a lovely thoughtful gift to give. There larger sized crayons are ideal for children with Special Needs to use as their large size means they are easy to manipulate when being held my little hands.

Thank you to Curious Crayons for putting smiles on 3 cute faces in Mayo.xxx
