FREE Printable Download Countdown to Christmas and a Countdown to Back to School.
Many children find the holidays so overwhelming, a countdown can help bring concrete structure to their days.
As an Autistic parent to three Autistic sons, I realise innately the importance of preparing my children for the unpredictable nature of change. Like myself, my sons are visual learners, providing information for them visually supports their learning style and is a strengths based approach.
To support my son’s during the Christmas period I have designed a series visual focused resources to support their understanding and I have made these resources available for FREE so that you can download them and use them to support your Autistic children or students.
I will use these resources from the start of December each year and they will support my son’s information processing, and provide a concrete understanding of the time passing for them, ensuring they understand exactly when Christmas is occurring and when they will return to school.
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Printer
- Laminator
- Scissors
- Velcro Coins (I buy mine in bulk from Amazon.com (not the UK Amazon) you get a better deal on the US site)
WHAT YOU DO:
- You will need to print off the PDF download
- Laminate each sheet
- You need to cut out each ICON square (the ones that have trees/school etc) and attach Velcro Coins on to the back of each one
- On the sheets that contain the Calendar you need to attach the corresponding Velcro coins (the opposite to the soft/rough Velcro coins you used on the Icon squares)
- Starting then from the 1st of December you and your child will place the correct icon on the appropriate square for each date, depending on the day etc
